Paddy Upton joins team India as a mentor to repeat the 2011 history

Paddy Upton joins team India as a mentor to repeat the history like in 2011

India appoints Paddy Upton as the mentor for team India as much cricket precedes T20I and the players have to stay mentally strong.

BCCI has appointed Paddy Upton as a coach for mental conditioning. The coach who is more than 50 years old has just joined the team in the series against West Indies. He also was serving the team India under Gary Kirsten during the 2011 World Cup and played a crucial role in the winning of the tournament.

Behind Upton’s appointment, there was a key role played by Rahul Dravid, head coach of India. He recommends Upton as he found him exclusively fruitful when both worked together for team India back in the 2010s. Moreover, Dravid as the Coach and Upton as a mentor also served for Rajasthan’s Royals and, later on, Delhi Daredevils in IPL.

A look at the services of Upton

Upton has many feathers in his cap when it comes to serving in cricket. He was Performance Director of South Africa. After that, He assumed the charge of head coach for Sydney Thunders at BBL and for Lahore Qalandars in PSL. He has also had the prestige of serving in IPL. Of his records, the most recent is serving as the ‘Team Catalyst’ at Rajasthan Royals.

Target of India behind appointing Upton

The decision of appointing him came in the wake of the highly hectic schedule of team India before the T20I World Cup starts. After the series of 5 matches against the West Indies, the team will tour Zimbabwe for an ODI series. Following these events, India will participate in Asia Cup 2022 in August. These events will be followed by white-ball series held in India against Australia and Africa. Board considers it very necessary to have a seasoned mentor who boosts the morale of the players during the ups and downs.
