Shahzada TV | News Desk | Jonathan Trott has become the head coach of Afghanistan. The player served for the British team for almost years and is ready to begin his tenure with the start of Afghanistan’s tour to Ireland for T20I in August.
This is the first time that the cricketer has assumed the charge of coaching in his career. Before this, although he has been a batting consultant to England on a limited scale and coached Scotland in 2021, he has never got the opportunity for absolute coaching before this.
Trott has been one of the finest English batters, especially in test cricket. He made a 3835 score in 52 matches and is accredited for playing a triumphant role in registering a memorable victory over Australia in Ashes 2010-11. Trott is not less plausible than any other batter when it comes to ODIs. With an average of 51, he made 2819 runs in ODI and hit 4 hundred and 22 fifties. Discontinuing his charming pace of the game, he paused cricket in 2013 and ended up with retirement in 2015.
Trott remarked that on being the coach of the rapidly progressing team, he felt very proud. He also called the team Afghanistan a “Hot-bed of talent” and assured us that with this progress the success of the team is very probable.
Trott’s appointment is the result of a series of mishaps with team Afghanistan. The team had appointed Graham Thorpe as their head coach in March 2022. However, he felt ill and ceased to work as the coach. To continue the team’s performance, ACB appointed Raees Khan Ahmedzai as interim head coach who helped the team to win six limited-overs matches against Zimbabwe.
The series of Five T20Is is beginning on 9 August in Dublin. The team will get a lot to learn and perform well in the upcoming series e.g. Asia Cup in UAE, T20 World Cup 2022, and series against Pakistan.
