Shahzada TV | Sports Desk | Samiullah Shinwari, a well-known Afghanistan hard hitter middle order batter, has returned to the team of Afghanistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 held in UAE and hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board.

Samiullah was not part of the team for the last two years. However, being inspired by his recent performance in Shpageeza League, the board decided to include him in the squad. The squad consisting of 17 members is all set to perform in Asia Cup starting on 27th August.

It was March 2020 when Samiullah Shinwari played for the team against Ireland. After that series, he remained absent from the team for quite a long time and got a chance to perform again. Though he didn’t play for the team, his participation in Shpageeza Leagues has attracted the attention of the board.

Prior to Shinwari’s selection, Sharafudin was announced to be on the list of reserve players. However, the board has set Sharafuddin aside and has introduced Shinwari in his place. Apart from Shinwari, another player Noor Ahmad has also been added to the squad. Noor was replaced by Mujeeb Rehman in the series against Ireland.

However, Nijat Masoud, Qais Ahmad, and Sharafuddin Ashraf are in the category of reserve players

The board is highly ambitious for Samiullah Shinwari and considers selecting him one of the best decisions. Simultaneously, it also expects fantastic performances from Samiullah Shinwari. Although he has not got a chance to play international cricket, his performance in Shpageeza Cricket League 2022 has proved that he is all set to set the ground on fire.

Afghanistan falls in group B in Asia Cup along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The top two performers will progress to the next stage. Currently, Afghanistan team is in Ireland for a series of five T20I and will leave for UAE after the match on Wednesday.
